| Plot |
| An inspiring look at hope and failure in the educational system of urban Los Angeles. Jaime Escalante (Edward James Olmos) is a high school math teacher at Garfield High School, whose students are unmotivated and surrounded by gangs and violence in their daily lives. Escalante inspires them to search inside for their best, taking them from a beginning grounding in high school math and giving his all in preparing them for college level calculus placement courses. He challenges their desires and motivations, as well as pushing himself to his mental and physical limits in bringing out the best that these students truly can be. |
