Plot
What happened on the night Eddie Wilson’s (Michael Pare) car went over the bridge? Everyone wants to know. Did he live? Did he die? Eddie’s car was found but not Eddie. Eddie and his band the Cruisers were on the way up but on that fateful night everything changes. Now, years later, that unsolved mystery sparks a reporter’s(Ellen Barkin) search for the truth. Especially when it is revealed that master tapes were taken from the recording studio days after Eddie’s disappearance. She wants to interview the former Cruisers. Wordman (Tom Berenger), now a high school English teacher, wants no part of it or to relive the past. With Eddie gone, the two things Eddie believed had to be together “words and music” weren’t and fame wasn’t important to him anymore. Former bass player Sal (Matthew Laurance) is still living the life - he has his own version of the band with look-a-likes in the part of Eddie, backup singer Joann (Helen Schneider), and saxman, Wendell Newton (Michael Antunes). Wordman visits Sal’s show and later they reminisce backstage. Their former promoter, now a small time DJ (Joe Pantoliano) at a college radio station, looks up Wordman after he’s met the journalist. Through flashbacks, we find out about the band and even an intrigue between Joann and Wordman. These added with awesome musical numbers are part of the joyride with Eddie and The Cruisers.
